    Sun Shelters question by J: What to do, i can’t take care of my sun conure anymore?
    I cannot take care of my sun conure anymore. There’s so way i can give him as much love or attention as needed, he prevents me from getting work done, as he’s time consuming. I feel so guilty keeping him. Do any animal shelters take birds? I can’t think of any friends who would want him and it could take forever to find someone who wants to buy him.

    Don’t take him to an animal shelter. Post ads online or in the newspaper. Many people are more than happy to buy birds from owners who can no longer care for them. I’ve known a lot of people who prefer it this way, so that they’re helping out a bird whose owner can’t care for him anymore rather than purchasing a brand new baby.

    Try looking at a bird forum like birdboard.com, there are many pet bird lovers who are willing to take in an unwanted bird and you’re almost guaranteed the bird will go to a loving home. Just post where you’re from and I’m sure you’ll get a response.

    I would NOT recommend craigslist. A lot of people on classifieds sites buy birds to resell for profit.

    They sell all the time on craigslist (where I got all mine). If you sell him with the cage and toys you can get a few hundred back. Make sure to screen the new people to ensure he goes to a good home. Conures are usually only advertised in my area for at most a week before someone grabs it up, unless the person is asking full price in which case nobody seems to take them since they can get one from the pet shop for the same price.

    Also check if you have any bird stores in the area. We have one where I live that will help sell the bird for you, or even buy it from you.

    I know the shelter that I live close to takes birds. A pet store near me will also take birds if they are healthy and aren’t too elderly to sell.

    If you haven’t the time to list him for sale, you can look into an Avian rescue. Many of these organizations are wonderful, however be sure to check it out before releasing your conure to one. Also, there are many people listed who would love to offer a loving home to a parrot simply do not have the initial cost to invest in one. Which in all honesty would be better spent on vet care and a proper diet. Hope this helps!

    you could just let him chill on your shoulder while you do work or think about getting him a friend like a little green cheek but if you really want to give it away you could just look up a local breeder and see if they would be willing to take it or knows of anyone to take it.
