looking for a spot for me and the wife to pitch a tent and watch the sun set and rise. I am not looking for a county park or campground. There must be some free land available on this island!

Southold Town Beaches and Parks

Resident and non-resident day parking passes are issued by beach attendants at Town Beach, New Suffolk Beach and Norman E. Klipp/Gull Pond Park from 9:30AM to 5:00PM daily.
Resident Beach Permits cost .51 per season.
Non Resident Daily Beach Permits are .68 per day.
Non-Resident Seasonal Permit is 8.50.
Hotel/Motel Beach Permits cost .70 for the season.

Town Beach
Overlooks Long Island Sound, and is located off of Route 48 in Southold. It is patrolled by lifeguards and parking attendants. Available amenities include a roped-off swimming area, restrooms, picnic area, and playground. Parking by permit only.

New Suffolk Beach
At the intersection of Jackson and First Streets, boasts a vista of Robin’s Island. A boat launching ramp and restroom are available. Lifeguards supervise the designated swimming area. Parking and boat launching by permit only.

Goose Creek Beach
Off of North Bayview Road, along Southold Bay. Lifeguards and beach attendants are present. Restrooms. Parking by permit only.

McCabe’s Beach
Looks out upon Long Island Sound off of North Sea Road in Southold. Lifeguards and beach attendants. Parking by permit only.

Kenny’s Beach
At the end of Kenny’s Road in Southold, has restrooms for public use. Parking by permit only.

Laurel Lake Park
On Route 25 in Laurel, is a freshwater fishing area that also includes two baseball fields, an information center, and a playground. Parking permit not required.

Goldsmith Inlet Beach
Overlooks Long Island Sound at the end of Mill Road in Peconic. Unsupervised beachfront. Parking by permit only.

Norman E. Klipp Marine Park/Gull Pond Beach
At the end of Manhanset Avenue, off of Route 48 in Greenport. Facilities include a playground and restroom, and the beach is supervised by lifeguards and attendants. Parking by permit only.

Cutchogue-New Suffolk Park District

Fleet Neck Beach/Pequash Avenue Beach
Looking over Cutchogue Harbor, this is an ideal beach for children, featuring a playground, picnic area, BBQ grills, basketball court, restrooms, and a supervised swimming area. The beach is handicapped accessible via a ramp. Cutchogue/New Suffolk Park District parking permit required.

Nassau Point Causeway Beach
Overlooks Little Peconic Bay, and features a playground, BBQ grills, picnic tables, basketball court, shallow supervised swimming area and restrooms. The beach is has a handicapped accessible ramp. Cutchogue/New Suffolk Park District parking permit required.

Mattituck Park District Aldrich Lane Park
Adjacent to the Laurel School, has soccer fields and lighted softball fields for night games.

Bailie’s Beach Park
A Soundfront beach located on the east side of the Mattituck Inlet jetty. Site of a Boy Scout Cabin. Mattituck Park District permit required for parking.

Breakwater Beach Park
A Soundfront beach located on the west side of Mattituck Inlet. Mattituck Park District permit required for parking.

Marratooka Lake
A small freshwater lake along the south side of Route 25 in Mattituck. Great ice-skating pond in the winter.

Bay Avenue Park
Located along James Creek, has a small parking area, Little League baseball field, and two tennis courts.

Veteran’s Memorial Park and Beach
At the end of Bay Avenue in Mattituck, has a picnic area, playground, bocci and shuffleboard courts. Lifeguard supervision during the summer months. Parking by permit only.

Orient-East Marion Park District

Truman’s Beach
Located right off of Route 25 in Orient. No facilities are available at this site. Parking by permit only.

Southold Park District Triangle Park
On the north side of Route 25 before entering downtown Southold, is a grassy picnic area featuring the Southold War Memorial, commemorating World War II, Korea and Vietnam veterans.

Emerson Park
An unsupervised beach located at the end of South Harbor Road.

Horton’s Point Lighthouse Park
At the end of Lighthouse Lane, features a nautical museum that is run maintained by the Southold Historical Society. This area also boasts one of the most beautiful views of Long Island Sound.

Founder’s Landing
Located at the end of Hobart Road overlooking Southold Bay. There is a playground, picnic tables, restrooms, and a lifeguard supervised swimming area. Parking by permit only.
